Have you looked at those old home videos lately? Did you notice that the quality is degrading over time, or tapes are becoming unplayable? DVD media actually improves the appearance of taped video, doesn't degrade with age, and can easily be copied to other data storage devices. 

If you are looking for a certain event, you have to Fast Forward and Rewind through numerous, perhaps vaguely labeled tapes. I create titled, motion menus which not only accurately indicate the beginning of separate recordings with a chapter point, but gives you a glimpse of the recorded image as well to quickly locate and identify the disc's content.
